WIDE OPEN SPACES
Chaparral's Wide Tech technology delivers not only state-of-the-art performance but innovative styling as well.
The Wide Tech look starts at the bow, carries through to the windshield and extends to the sunlounge and then to the swim step. The 196 is anything but "me too" in any way.
THROTTLE DOWN
A picture speaks a 1,000 words. At speed you gain a feeling of total control. Cornering agility is first rate. Cruise speed efficiency is unmatched and the full throttle excitement keeps you coming back for more. It's hard to imagine more efficient ride control than what you'll experience behind the wheel of a 196.
ANCHOR STORAGE
Most boats at this length require you to store the anchor under a seat where it can rattle and cause all kinds of havoc. Not so on the 196. The forward locker provides secure anchor storage in a custom cradle with more than enough space for a line and chain.
BOW STORAGE
Fiberglass bow storage helps keep the 196 ship-shape. A molded insulated ice chest chills cold drinks as melted ice drains overboard. Note the full-sized stainless steel grab handles, recessed drink holders, inset speaker grills and full height backrest cushions.

A molded bow door hinges into place to keep the wind at bay.
AT THE HELM
This is the definition of helm ergonomics. A sport steering wheel feels good to the touch. Glass lens gauges are positioned for unobstructed visibility against a black, glare free field. Power On rocker switches are clearly identified and a delight on evening cruises.
RECESSED GUNWALES
Uniquely Chaparral, the molded fiberglass side panels are recessed to create more space and a big boat feel. Padded armrests are a welcome plus, as are the stainless steel drink holders and secure grab handles.
FLOOR STORAGE
Classy, efficient and inviting the 196's cockpit layout is the best in boating. A huge in-floor locker is wide enough for stowing wakeboards, includes a drainage system and a lid that lifts forward with a gas assist shock for support.
TRANSOM WALK THRU
Chaparral's engineering brilliance shines through with a clever three position hinged walk thru cushion.
The starboard cushion lays flat for a lounge, can be angled for a chaise or hinged out of the way for walk-thru access.
WALK THRU
Access is simple thanks to a deep and wide transom walk-thru with diamond Lustre nonskid.
TRANSOM STORAGE
Beach toys and water sports equipment stow within arm's reach of the swim platform for handy access.
INTEGRATED SWIM STEP
All the fun starts here. The 196's low profile integrated platform is noticeably wider and deeper than rivals and features sure-footed non-skid. A separate compartment houses a telescopic ladder that has a top-rung grab handle and is angled for easy access.
ENGINE ACCESS
Twin gas-assist shocks support a very sturdy engine hatch cover. Acoustical foam keeps the decibels down and there's a fire retardant shield over the engine for an added measure of safety protection. To port, there's room for a carry-on cooler.
CUSTOM ENGINE VENTS
The Wide Tech styling cues continue at the transom with custom made stainless steel engine vents that also feature color coordinated accents. The vents are not only eye-catching but provide meaningful air flow inside the engine compartment.
